Over the years, I’ve learnt something that many people don’t talk about enough.
Burnout doesn’t always arrive with a warning.
Sometimes it creeps in quietly. Life becomes a cycle of work, responsibilities, deadlines and caring for everyone else. Before you realise it, weeks have passed without taking any time for yourself.
As the founder of Skilled Hands, and through the journey that began with Gold Hands many years ago, I’ve experienced those seasons. Running a social enterprise is incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with long days, constant problem-solving and the responsibility of supporting others.
One lesson I’ve carried with me is this: creativity isn’t just a skill—it’s a way to pause, breathe and reconnect with yourself.
That belief is what inspired The Luxury Scent Experience.
On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, we’ll be hosting a luxury perfume-making evening at Hockley Arts Club in Nottingham.
This isn’t about becoming a perfumer. It’s about giving yourself permission to slow down for two hours.
To laugh with friends.
To enjoy a welcome drink and light refreshments.
To meet new people or spend quality time with someone special.
To create something with your own hands.
And to leave with a bespoke 20ml signature perfume that captures a little piece of your personality.
Whether you’re planning a girls’ night out, a date night, celebrating a birthday, organising a hen party, arranging a team social after work or simply looking for something different to do, this evening has been designed to offer more than a workshop. It’s an experience.
